After slitting, the prepared steel strips move into the next phase of the ERW pipe production line. This includes uncoiling, end welding, and buffering-steps that ensure smooth, uninterrupted flow during pipe forming.

Uncoiling and Leveling

 

Each slit coil is lifted into the uncoiler. The strip is gradually unwound and passed through a leveling machine, which removes coil-set (curvature from coiling) and ensures the strip lays flat and even.

At this point, operators also check:

Strip width consistency

Surface condition

Edge quality (especially burrs or notches)

Proper leveling is critical, as uneven tension or misalignment here can cause welding defects or shape distortions later in the pipe.

 

End Shearing and Strip Welding (End Joining)

 

To maintain continuous production, strip ends must be joined seamlessly. This is achieved via end shearing and butt welding:

The tail end of the previous coil and the head of the next are cut square.

A welding station performs automatic MIG or TIG welding to join them.

Welds are ground smooth to ensure no raised sections that may interfere with forming.

Huayang uses high-speed end welding machines with precise alignment tools to minimize downtime. Safety and alignment verification are also performed before resuming line speed.

 

Looping (Accumulator/Storage Loop)

 

The final stage before forming is accumulation, where a horizontal or vertical loop accumulator stores a buffer length of strip steel. This allows the forming and welding section to operate continuously even while a new coil is being loaded and welded.

Key functions of the accumulator:

Absorbs line speed fluctuation

Buffers coil changeover time

Maintains tension consistency

The accumulator ensures that downstream processes such as forming, welding, sizing, and cutting remain stable-which is crucial for producing pipes of uniform quality.
